SUMMARY:Spain Solar Eclipse Live
DESCRIPTION:A total solar eclipse will sweep across parts of Greenland\, Iceland\, and Spain. Partial phases of this eclipse can be seen from some parts of the northeastern U.S.\, but unfortunately\, Central Georgia is a little too far south to see any of this eclipse. However\, several organizations plan to provide live broadcasts of this eclipse\, and they will be shown in the museum’s auditorium. Weather permitting\, the Middle Georgia Astronomical Society will provide safe\, live views of the sun through the Thompson Solar Telescope\, which was recently donated to the museum in memory of Karen Yvette Thompson. Fun\, sun-related table activities will be available in the lobby\, and at 11:30 a.m.\, 2 & 4 p.m.\, the Mark Smith Planetarium will show programs explaining what causes eclipses and how they can be viewed. Everything is included in museum admission.\n\nEclipses happen when the Earth and moon move into specific orbital positions\, so sometimes solar and lunar eclipses occur a couple of weeks apart. This solar eclipse will be followed by a lunar eclipse\, which can be seen across the entire U.S.\, starting on the late evening of August 27.
