SUMMARY:Macon Film Fest Full Dome Showcase
DESCRIPTION:The Macon Film Festival partners with the Museum of Arts and Sciences to host the Full Dome Showcase. Renovated and re-opened in 2012\, the MAS Planetarium features a 44-foot dome\, the largest in Central Georgia or within a 100-mile radius of Macon. As planetariums across the world become more technologically advanced\, artistic expression on the dome is becoming very popular and much of the work in this immersive medium is quite stunning. \nFull Dome Film tickets available for purchase through the Macon Film Fest website.

SUMMARY:Sky Over Macon
DESCRIPTION:The Sky Over Macon in August is a little different since it happens on the same night at the Macon Film Festival at the museum. The trail tour will not be offered for this month only and the planetarium show will start at 6:30 p.m. After the planetarium show\, everyone is invited to watch Fulldome films from the Macon Film Festival as seating space permits (exiting the planetarium and reentering while seats are available will be required). The whole museum will be open until 9\, and if the sky is clear\, telescopes will be available for looking at objects in the sky starting at that time.

SUMMARY:Almost Total Lunar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:The lunar eclipse on this evening just misses being considered a total eclipse\, but 96% of the moon’s surface will be in the Earth shadow.  If there are no clouds in front of the moon\, the Middle Georgia Astronomical Society will have telescopes available to view the eclipse (if the sky is cloudy\, there will be no observing\, but the following activities will still take place).  A live broadcast of the eclipse from other locations around the world will be shown and reoccurring programs in the Mark Smith Planetarium will describe what causes eclipses.  Feel free to come in your family-friendly pajamas with a pillow and view the eclipse while laying on bean bags\, weather permitting!\n\nEntrance for this event will be through the planetarium door on the east side of the building.  The museum will be closed and only the planetarium and observatory will be open. Admission by Donation.
