DESCRIPTION:The Museum of Arts and Sciences is kicking off a BRAND NEW Lecture Performance Series this summer titled “The Art of Science”! \nCome learn about the Sciences through Art! You might find they rely on each other more than you thought! This series is for all ages\, but is specifically for our life-long learners who want to learn something new this summer! \nLearn about the musical traditions of the Appalachia with Raptor Manager\, Pete Griffin\, and STEAM Curator\, Xandrya Edwards. Hear the sounds of Appalachian musical instruments\, learn to read shape notes\, and sing with us as we learn the science and history behind this long-held folk music tradition You will not want to miss this program on August 19th at 7 p.m.! \nYou will not want to miss all the exciting happenings at the Museum this summer\, so be sure to check the Events page on the Museum’s website and keep up with us on social media for more information! \nThis event is included in the Museum’s General Admission Ticket or will be $5 at the door. SUMMARY:Almost Total Lunar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:The lunar eclipse on this evening just misses being considered a total eclipse\, but 96% of the moon’s surface will be in the Earth shadow.  If there are no clouds in front of the moon\, the Middle Georgia Astronomical Society will have telescopes available to view the eclipse (if the sky is cloudy\, there will be no observing\, but the following activities will still take place).  A live broadcast of the eclipse from other locations around the world will be shown and reoccurring programs in the Mark Smith Planetarium will describe what causes eclipses.  Feel free to come in your family-friendly pajamas with a pillow and view the eclipse while laying on bean bags\, weather permitting!\n\nEntrance for this event will be through the planetarium door on the east side of the building.  The museum will be closed and only the planetarium and observatory will be open. Admission by Donation.
