SUMMARY:Fractal Friday
DESCRIPTION:MAS will partner with the Fractal Foundation (Albuquerque\, NM) to present these innovative art-infused science experiences in the planetarium which immerse audiences in flights through fractal animations (or complex\, never-ending geometric patterns that repeat at different scales). Each experience is unique and showcases repeating patterns of fractals that have been augmented with dramatic flight movements and dynamic color cycling – plus live presenters offering information about the mathematical formulas that define fractals occurring in nature\, from the growth of the tiniest plant up to the shapes of galaxies!\nThe 6 p.m. performance is for family audiences and describe what fractals are and where they can be found. The 7:15 p.m. showing will be “Fractals Rock\,” which is a more experiential production.

DESCRIPTION:The Museum of Arts and Sciences is kicking off a Lecture Performance Series titled “The Art of Science”! Come learn about the Sciences through Art! You will not want to miss this program on November 4th at 7 p.m.! \nMary Edna Fraser fills Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences with her signature large scale batiks on silk in Above\, Between\, Below—depicting breathtaking perspectives of space\, earth\, and deep sea. The ambitious exhibition bridges cutting-edge scholarship and the ancient art of batik—a technique of hand-dyeing fabrics by using removable wax as a dye resist. Working closely with collaborators Ted Maxwell (Planetary Scientist Emeritus\, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum)\, Orrin H. Pilkey (Geology Professor Emeritus\, Duke University) and Cindy Lee Van Dover (Biologist\, Past Director of the Duke Marine Lab)\, the artist has drawn upon their insights to create images that bring the grandeur of distant landscapes near to us.
