
The Museum of Arts and Sciences (MAS) welcomes Jim Greenhouse as its next Executive Director, effective January 5, 2026.
Jim Greenhouse served as a science curator at the MAS for 17 years (1992-2002 and 2005-2012) before relocating to lead science programming at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science in Albuquerque. He is a seasoned museum professional with over 30 years of experience in science education, museum outreach, and planetarium management.
As the Space Science Director at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science, Jim oversaw the operations of a nationally accredited planetarium, research-grade observatory, science exhibitions, and educational outreach programs. His leadership includes developing and delivering high-quality education programs, plus managing staff, volunteers, and public engagement initiatives focused on science education.
Throughout his career, Jim Greenhouse has held key roles at several respected institutions including the Settlemyre Planetarium (SC), Sharpe Planetarium (TN), and The Science Place (TX), in addition to Macon’s MAS. His responsibilities have consistently involved developing and delivering science programs, creating original planetarium shows, managing teams, and coordinating large-scale public events. He also has a background in public relations, having marketed museum exhibitions and increased public engagement through strategic communication.
Jim’s accomplishments span producing multimedia science content for all age groups, contributing regularly to newsletters and newspapers, and playing a lead role in national science education initiatives. Notably, he helped organize major eclipse-related events in 2023 and 2024, including a globally viewed NOAA broadcast. He has also contributed to NASA missions like PUNCH and collaborated on projects with the Smithsonian. With a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Texas at Arlington, Jim combines strong communication expertise with a lifelong passion for science education.
