Separation, struggle, trauma, and triumphs are all themes central to the Museum of Arts and Sciences' newest exhibition titled, "WE: American Voices" by artist Micaela Hobbs. Hobbs' most recent project addresses the social and political strife throughout American history from the perspective of the dinner table. The idea for this collection came to Hobbs' after an incident in her studio in Watkinsville, Georgia.

"On the morning of the 2016 Thanksgiving holiday, I pulled a ceramic platter out of my kiln that had formed a spectacular crack down the middle," Hobbs recalled. "It looked as if a giant had tried to tear it in half, but stopped at the last minute. It seemed to me, in that moment, that I was holding America in my hands."

Diverse perspectives and narratives of historical events are presented as a series of place settings and serving pieces. Intricately decorated ceramic pieces highlight individuals, institutions, events and iconography that tell a complex narrative of American history spanning nearly 400 years.

"WE: American Voices" will be on display at the Museum of Arts and Sciences beginning February 14 until October 25. The installation features a 36-foot long table lined with over 300 ceramic pieces.
