In 1901, the Jesuits (La Societe Catholique Religieuse) purchased approximately 90 plus acres off Forest Hill Road to provide students of the St. Stanislaus College with both a place for recreation and a retreat. The new resort offered a villa, a reflecting/swimming pool, a path on which to pray the stations of the cross, statues of saints mounted on brick platforms, and a replica of the Grotto of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes.

In its modern history, the Grotto of Macon, GA, has fallen victim to vandalism and disrepair. The Reichert family has since purchased and restored the property to its former beauty. The family has partnered with the Museum of Arts and Sciences to offer fall and spring guided tours of this historical and religious site.

Due to limited capacity, reservations are REQUIRED through Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-grotto-tours-tickets-432709173787) and no money will be taken at the door. Tours will begin in front of the Museum, and then transition off property to the Grotto. 

Reminder: The Grotto is located on private property and tours can only be made through the Museum of Arts and Sciences.
