HOSHI, by Nonotak Studio
Wonderspaces at MAS
Sponsored by the Knight Foundation
November 1, 2024- February 15, 2025
The Museum of Arts and Sciences (MAS) is excited to partner with Wonderspaces to pilot a two-year digital transformation of a main art gallery. Through the project, we’ll present a series of five major multimedia immersive ART+TECH works over the next two years. Each installation will be on display approximately 16 weeks, with the first exhibit “HOSHI” by Paris-based Nonotak Studio on display November 1, 2024, through February 15, 2025.
Founded in 2016, Wonderspaces presents artwork of over 125 partner artists through permanent exhibitions in Scottsdale, Philadelphia, and Austin, and through collaborations with institutions in organizations across the country. Wonderspaces’ mission is to deliver art to new audiences. The Wonderspaces + MAS partnership is a dynamic effort to bring internationally recognized multimedia artists to the Southeastern United States.
The first exhibit in this series, “HOSHI” by Nonotak Studio is a depiction of infinite space using light, mirrors, and sound to engage visitors in a monumental immersive experience. Nonotak Studio, a collaboration between illustrator Noemi Schipfer and architect-musician Takami Nakamoto, is based in Paris with a worldwide following. They began their collaboration working on light and sound installations, creating dreamlike environments. Combining Takami’s approach of space and sound plus Noemi’s experience in kinetic visuals, their installations are distinctively immersive and engaging on a sensory level.
Complementing each exhibit, the MAS will offer technical and curatorial workshops for regional professionals (5 onsite workshops with the Wonderspaces team and 5 virtual sessions with the exhibiting artists). Additional special topics workshops may be offered, also. Thanks to the generous support of the Knight Foundation, all workshops are free and open to artists, IT professionals, exhibit/event presenters, curators and scholars, media representatives and journalists, and students. This workshop series offers an exceptional opportunity for local professionals to gain valuable information from the country’s ART+TECH leader plus also interact with the internationally acclaimed artists featured.
Other exhibits planned for the MAS include “ON A HUMAN SCALE” by Matthew Matthew, “PLUME” by Ian Brill, “FUJI” by Joanie Lemercier, and “ERUPTURE” by Nicole Banowetz. Find out more at: https://guide.wonderspaces.com/mas-macon
