Capacity: 120

1st Grade

Georgia Standards of Excellence: S1L1

Field Trip will run for 3 hours and include the following programs (in no particular order):

  • Live Animal Experiences provide unique opportunities for students to see and learn about some of our animals at the Museum up close from an animal expert.
  • Discuss what animals need to survive (water, air, food, shelter) using real-life examples.
  • Explore how some animals get what they need from their environment.

  • Our Discovery House consists of three fully interactive floors, including the Mini-Zoo, that you will be guided to and given tips on the best ways to explore.
  • Create and design on our top floor in the Artist’s Garret.
  • Observe the many animals in our Mini-Zoo on the main floor.
  • Explore weather, dig for fossils, and more on our bottom floor in the Scientist’s Workshop.

  • The trail program is a guided walk along our Sweetgum Trail which includes a Georgia native plant garden, a pond, art sculptures, and more.
  • Observe examples of different plants and their parts (root, stem, leaves, flowers, and fruits).
  • Discuss what plants need to survive (air, water, light, nutrients) by looking at examples along the trail.

  • Our newly renovated outdoor picnic area provides covered and uncovered lunch spots for our field trip groups. During this time you may visit our Museum Store.
  • Lunch should remain on the bus until lunch time as there is no storage at the Museum.
  • You may order/cater lunch for your group. Please let the Front Desk know ahead of time. The Museum is not responsible for your food order.
  • If you choose to visit the Museum Store, please send in 10 students at a time with a chaperone THROUGHOUT your lunch time. Waiting until the very end of your lunch time will slow the check-out process and may cause you to miss your final program/bus departure.
