Volunteering allows you to be more than just a visitor and experience all that MAS has to offer. From interpretation to educational programming to exciting family events, volunteers get the unique privilege of exploring multiple interests and passions.
We rely on volunteers to provide the best experience for guests of all ages. In return for their time, we offer benefits such as free admission and special appreciation events. Interested volunteers should review opportunities below and complete the Volunteer Application.
Student volunteers work with our Education Department on projects and events. These can range from assisting with supply preparation to running one of our activity tables for guests. This type of volunteering allows for flexibility around school hours and is ideal for high school or college students seeking volunteer credit with interests in education, earth science, environmental science, space, wildlife science, or art.
* You must be at least 16 years of age to qualify as a student volunteer.
Adult volunteers work with our Education Department and Curatorial Staff on a variety of tasks. These may include assisting with school field trips, helping with special events, and acting as a docent for our various exhibits and objects on display. Whether your passion is education, space, animals, the environment, rocks and minerals, or even trains — we have the right opportunities for you. Ideal for college students, retired educators, and adults thinking of a career change.
* You must be at least 18 years of age to qualify as an adult volunteer.
Internships are excellent opportunities to explore your interests and gain experience for careers in general museum work, art, education, earth/environmental science, and wildlife science. Internships are available for current college students on a semester-by-semester basis. Five TracksWork with our Curator of Wildlife Sciences and our animals in the Mini-Zoo. Learn about animal husbandry, enrichment, education, and interpretation.
Work with our Education Team and assist with field trip programs and special event days. Field trips occur Tuesdays–Fridays, 10 AM – 1 PM.
Work with our Communications Manager on marketing and communications projects across digital and print channels.
Work with our Planetarium Staff to deliver shows and programs in our Planetarium to the general public and school groups.
Work with our Collections Team and assist with collections management and exhibit work, including installation and deinstallation.
