The Museum of Arts and Sciences has expanded its science programming through a partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) by adding a Science on a Sphere (SOS) installation – the first in Georgia. The MAS installation was funded by The Peyton Anderson Foundation and was opened to the public on September 1, 2015.

SOS was developed by NOAA to serve as an educational tool for illustrating Earth system science to people of all ages. The Sphere showcases animated images of global temperature, real-time cloud coverage, earthquakes around the world, and other scientific data, explaining complex processes in an understandable and engaging way. Science on a Sphere at MAS is 1 of only 3 in Georgia, and there are approximately 175 SOS installations worldwide.

With over 100 datasets to explore and an interactive kiosk, Science on a Sphere wows guests of all ages and supports the MAS mission to stimulate curiosity, evoke wonder, and inspire lifelong learning. Be sure to check it out on your next visit! For more information about SOS, you can visit https://sos.noaa.gov/.
