In the wild, they nest in tree holes where the females will lay 2-4 eggs. The female will incubate the eggs for around 28 days, and when they hatch the chicks will not open their eyes for another few weeks. The male will bring food for the chicks and female, all while protecting the nest from any predators. At around four weeks, the female will leave and start collecting food. The chicks will become independent and leave the nest at around 12 weeks.
