African Straw-colored Fruit Bats

Eidolon helvum

These fruit bats are quite large. In fact, they are the second largest of the African Fruit bats. Their body length averages between 5-9 inches, with an impressive wingspan of up to 30 inches! These large wings aid them in flying long distances to search for food by spending less energy than flapping their wings would require.
